Rosehip Seed

Rosehip seed (Rosa spp.) is a valuable oil raw material distinguished by its high polyunsaturated fatty acid content and bioactive component profile. The oil content of the seeds generally varies between approximately 4-18%, and the resulting oil fraction consists largely of unsaturated fatty acids. The oil composition mainly includes linoleic and α-linolenic acids, with these two essential fatty acids constituting a significant part of the total fatty acid profile. In addition to high levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids, rosehip seed oil exhibits a distinct antioxidant capacity thanks to its content of tocopherols, carotenoids, phenolic compounds, and phytosterols. These components increase the value of the oil, especially in terms of oxidative stability, cellular regeneration, and functional use. The rosehip plant is naturally distributed across a wide geography including Europe, Asia, and Anatolia; it is also commonly found in Turkey, and the seeds obtained as a result of fruit processing processes offer a significant byproduct potential.
